The Damned

You’ve finally found the light
The one you have been searching for
The one you have been dreaming since forever
Grinding your teeth tight and eyes shut
You took small steps forward towards the light’s core
With each fearful steps believing you were getting closer

But then you stopped in abrupt
As every time you looked back you see the darkness
Following and chasing and clinging to your arms
And as every time you looked straight up
The light was floating further in its playfulness
Teasing you while leaving behind its trail of charms

So you stood still while the light floated away
And allowing the darkness caught up as it should
For you have conceded your place is with the battered
Paying your dues for the times you were swayed
You were left wishing for the light to be all that it could
Shining up high from a place that is sacred

You will live on with the choice you’ve made
